FIONA DUCKETT
I’ve been making pots for myself for over 25 years and specialise in a unique type of glaze finish that’s like oil on water or a peacock’s feather (when the kiln gods are being kind). I will have been in my present studio in the old Methodist Church in Whitehills for 20 years this October.
In glaze lustre is made by only a handful of people in the UK although as genre it is over 2000 years old - originally invented to get around a religious ban that stopped the wealthy eating off gold and silver plates.
I’m not local and have lived all over the UK but absolutely love this part of the world, having been here longer than anywhere else I have lived. I was first introduced to Pennan by Brian Cook Shand as it was and still is a fine wee jaunt on one of his Motorbikes, clearly on a fine day, where the welcome and craic is very special.
